Meet "GG" - JJF's "Children With Strength" Inaugural 2024 Recipient

Uncategorized Jun 15, 2024

We are now underway with the 2024 College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska. Although there are many games to be played to determine who will be the two teams in the Championship weekend, there is no doubt that the Jean Jackson Foundation will be bringing two people who have never stepped foot in Omaha to join the College World Series family—GG and her mother, Emily Ontiveros.

Georgia Grace Ontiveros (aka GG) came to the attention of Corey and Melissa Jackson after they befriended a police officer named Louie who coached children at The Boys and Girls Club. It was a serendipitous discovery that Corey knew a friend of Louie's named Jeff Ontiveros, who was the father of GG. Tragically, two weeks after this realization, Jeff died from health complications at the mere age of 43 years old. Corey knew that we would one day honor Jeff through GG.

Jeff Ontiveros has an iconic celebratory moment at the CWS—he was the University of Texas first baseman who grabbed a grounder hit by a South Carolina player and stepped on first base to clench the 2002 CWS national title! But Jeff was a legend in his own right. He held many records at UT for many years, including the most games played and most career home runs.

You can see a brief video sharing photos and videos of GG and her father HERE.

While the Ontiveros family lost an incredible and irreplaceable husband, father, and more, we hope to honor GG's father just as Corey wanted to do for his own mother, Jean.

For those who would like to contribute $10 or more to the Jean Jackson Foundation, we have created a more flexible option to donate at this LINK.
